Biography
Praised by Opera Today for her “sumptuous mezzo,...beautifully even tone, very wide range, and sound technique,” Arkansas native, mezzo-soprano Alice Anne Light possesses a versatile and colorful voice that has brought success in opera, recital, concert, and musical theater. An avid recitalist and champion of new American Art Song, Dr. Light frequently partners with American composers to commission and perform new works in unconventional spaces. Upcoming engagements include a recital tour in Florence, Italy in the summer of 2019; Bach’s Magnificat and Mozart’s Requiem with the St. Louis Bach Society.
As a recitalist and performer, her repertoire spans a vast array of genres and time periods, from Bach to World Premieres of contemporary works. Her most recent project is a commission and collaboration with composer Cecil Price Walden on the World Premiere of Hours, an art song cycle and visual art spectacle designed to reinvent the expectations of the song recital. In 2019 alone, Dr. Light performed recitals in Italy, Romania, Ecuador, and China.
In addition to a diverse performing career, Alice Anne Light also enjoys an active teaching schedule. She currently serves on the voice faculty at Texas Tech University and frequently teaches masterclasses around the country. Alice Anne Light has been invited as a guest teacher-in-residence to the University of Mississippi, the University of Central Missouri, and Harding University. Additionally, she has been an invited presenter for continuing education and professional development seminars for middle school and high school choir directors around the country. Her lectures have focused on practical methods for teaching pedagogical concepts in a corporate choir setting.
Notable recent performances include a World Premiere of Tony Maglione’s Wedding of Solomon at the National Convention for the American Guild of Organists, as well as engagements with the St. Louis Bach Society, Opera in the Rock and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Central City Opera, Kansas City Wind Symphony, Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater, Opera Fayetteville, and the Bar Harbor Music Festival. Dr. Light holds degrees from Harding University, the University of Mississippi and the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance.
